Nikola Tesla
(1856-1943) was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical
engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern
alternating current electricity supply system.
He can be
considered the father of AC electricity and is responsible for the modern power
grid. Contrary to popular belief it was not Thomas Edison.
THOMAS EDISON
For
two years Nikola Tesla worked for Edison starting in 1882 at the Continental
Edison Company in France for one year, and the second year at
the Edison Machine Works in New York. It ended due to
disagreement over salary. It was Nikola Tesla who was responsible for the
innovations Edison patented.
In
1887 Tesla developed an induction motor that ran on alternating
current, a power system format. In 1888 Tesla had a viable AC motor and
related power system which he patented.
